June 2010 What a weekend for the GB kayak team! We made fourteen A-finals and came back with seven medals, three of them gold. Congratulations to Rachel Cawthorn, Jonnie Schofield, Liam Heath, Ed McKeever, Ed Cox, Jess Walker and Louisa Sawers who all won medals. Our team is growing in strength and depth and it is fantastic to come back competing as part of such a strong squad. The mens K4 and K2 1000m crews are also making great progress this year and it won't be long until they are on the podium too. The weather was perfect for racing all weekend and I am very happy with my speed so far after only fourteen weeks back into full time training. My body is starting to listen to my brain and I am really enjoying racing again. The 1000m K1 was tough with most of my main competitors there and I was pleased with a close 4th place just outside the medals. I also made the 500m final where I finished 8th with by this stage, a very tired body. My coach Eric is very pleased with the way I am racing and he is doing an excellent job cleverly planing my training.
The next race will be the European Championships in Tresona, Spain which takes place 2-4th July. In the mean time I will be back into another heavy block of training. 7th June 2010 |
