April 2010 I had an e-mail the other day from Tim Jacobs the Australian Surfski legend and two time winner of the Dubai Shamaal race, reminding me I need to update my website as he needs to know what I am up to. For the benefit of Tim and anyone interested I am just back from a good training camp in Seville to the seemingly arctic weather in the UK. Tim tells me it is nice and warm in Australia which is really helpful to me right now!
The wind here is howling and the river almost in flood. Thankfully I have been able to get some good quality sessions in still on the river, Dorney lake (site of the canoeing and rowing events for London 2012 Olympics) and the Wey Navigation canal. I like training on the canal as there are very few boats, and those that are on it go so slowly, they create virtually no wash. You get a real feeling of speed as it is quite narrow and the conditions are always good. I introduced Ekaitz Saies to training on the canal before Beijing when he trained with me for a while in the UK. He's now World Champion in the 200m event, so it must have been good!
This weekend is the first domestic regatta of the year in Nottingham. It's a good chance for everyone to see how they are progressing after a long hard winter of training. From what I saw of the mens and womens team training in Seville, everyone is looking fit and strong. Fingers crossed the weather will be good for it. 6th April 2010 |
