June 2008
This was the third and final World Cup event of the series, held in Poznan, Poland. Racing was just as intense in the mens K1's as the other two and I was happy enough to finish with a silver in the 1000 and the 500, coming 2nd to Adam from Canada on both occasions. Pleased with the way racing is going in this current block of training. Very happy getting a new PB in the 500 with a 1.35.8 in the final and Adam setting a new World best time of 1.35.6. Overall I finished 2nd in the World Cup rankings from the three World Cups.
Now it is back into another heavy block of training before starting to taper for the Olympic Games. Excited about picking up the Olympic kit later in the week, next stop Beijing!

First and most exciting news is that my younger sister delivered a healthy baby boy on Saturday afternoon. Congratualtions to Clare and her husband Richard, I am now an Uncle!
The World Cup went really well, I won the K1 1000m and came second in the 500m. All the usual suspects were there in the K1 events so it was a strong field. Now it is back into another hard block of training through the next World Cup in Poznan, Poland in two weeks.

The organisers of the first World Cup in Szeged proved once again that they know how to host a World class event. With loads of spectators, huge TV screen and live video web feeds of the racing, it really was an excellent regatta with a top quality field in the K1 events especially. Pity they couldn't do anything about the weather. It rained most of the time and there was a head/cross wind. I was pleased to come 3rd in the 1000m final. Not my best races, but a good start to the World Cup circuit for me. Next stop is back to Duisburg, Germany for the second World Cup regatta this weekend. See the website here.

The last two weeks of training have been really intense since the Europeans. Ekaitz Saies has been with me for every session and has proved to be a great training partner, many thanks to him for coming over. Tomorrow I head off to the first World Cup race of the year which is being held in Szeged, Hungary this weekend. Check out the website here for timetable and results.
