October 2008
Well, it has now been two months since the Olympics. Can't believe how quickly the time has flown by and how busy it has been. Running around all over the country talking at and attending different functions. Some of the highlights have been the Southampton boat show, Sports Aid ball and Olympic Gold ball. I also went to both the Labour party and Conservative party conferences for London 2012 evening receptions hosted by the BOA. GB Canoeing held an Autumn ball at the stunning Stoke Rochford Hall which was the first opportunity to catch up with the rest of the team.

Probably the best experience so far was the Olympic parade in London. A fantastic day with thousands of people coming out to support the Olympic and Paralympic teams. It really was a special day which finished up with meeting the Queen at a reception in Buckingham Palace. The day before, I had been to the Palace for a lunch hosted by HRH Prince Philip who is a Patron of the faculty of sports and exercise medicine. Two days in a row at Buck Palace!

Nelo held their 'Meeting of the Champions' event in Portugal. A brilliant few days with the Worlds best flatwater racing athletes, hosted by the Worlds best canoe and kayak manufacturer! It was great to see the factory again and thank the talented guys who made my boat for the Olympics. We were also part of the unveiling of the fantastic new Nelo designs.

My third trip abroad since returning from China was to Paris for a celebration of European sport event. This was a good opportunity to meet successful European athletes form a range of sports.

On a more active side, I won my second triathlon at Eton lake and came 10th in the Asics run Kingston 8.2 mile event. I've also been learning to scull. This has been a fantastic experience and given me a real appreciation for the finer points of a different sport. Coached by Bill Barry (Silver medallist in Tokyo 64) and Mike Hennessy (LW quad Athens 04), I partnered Alan Campbell (5th in single scull, Beijing 08) in a double scull for the pairs head race on the Tideway. We finished a creditable 6th after having only been in a boat about 10 times.

Last weekend I went to Croyde Bay in North Devon to go surfing with several of the kayak team boys. A really nice way to unwind and imporve my surfing skills after the hectic time since the Games.

Over the next few weeks I have a load more functions i've committed to and will be working on sorting out my return to the medical career, as well as finding sponsors and getting back into training. In summary, i'm a busy boy! Have added some new photos here.
